“Jameson is a special stallion with a lot of quality. He is sweet and smart, you don't really have to teach him anything. Every day I sit on it with a big smile and enjoy it.”

Amazon Marieke van der Putten

1. What makes Jameson so special to you?
“Jameson is a very special stallion with a lot of quality. He is very sweet and smart, you don't really need to teach him anything. You get on and drive off with it. I have ridden many good young stallions with Edward Gal and Hans Peter Minderhoud, so I can compare well.”

2. How does Jameson get along?

“James, as I usually call him, is very sweet in the stable. He does behave like a stallion, so you can hear him. If you walk down the hall with another horse, he greets them. I treat him as normal as possible. I brush him, ride or lunge him and he is in the paddock every day.”

3. How is his education going
“I ride James three times a week. We take it easy, just walk, trot and canter. He is big and strong. We are now preparing him for the performance test in the autumn. I'll make sure it's easy to follow, so hopefully he'll come through that whistling later."

4. What's the best thing you've had with Jameson so far?
“Every day is beautiful with him! Every time I ride it, I sit on it with a big smile and enjoy it. I don't say this very quickly. I am used to Toto Junior (by Totilas) who is very special. Jameson is a completely different horse, but also gives a very special feeling under the saddle.”

5. What are Jameson's future plans?
“We're not going to question Jameson. We are now quietly preparing him for the KWPN performance test in the autumn, which lasts fifty days. If he succeeds, the presentation in Den Bosch at the Stallion Inspection will be next and then we'll see. We are taking it step by step.”

6. Would you buy a foal yourself at the Foal Auction Prinsjesdag?
“I have to be honest, I've never been there. Now that I work at RS2 Dressage, where dressage horses are also bred and raised, I am starting to focus more on foals and young horses. At the moment, as a rider myself, I will not buy a foal anytime soon, because it will take a very long time before I can ride it.”

“Alicante was a very athletic and light-footed foal”

Buyer: Egbert Schep

1. Why did Alicante appeal to you at the time at the auction?
I found Alicante very interesting bred. It was one of the first crops of foals from his sire Casall and his offspring were just beginning to distinguish themselves. Furthermore, it was a very athletic and light-footed foal. As a three-year-old, after his approval by the KWPN as a breeding stallion, I sold him to my brother Jan Schep (HBC stable).

2. Did Alicante live up to your expectations?
Yes, of course! Alicante was late in its development and remained slack for a while. However, this has been handled with care and the Casall stallion has grown enormously in the work. I remember seeing him jump at the CSI Zandhoven in 2015 after the sale to Tal Milstein and I was amazed at how well he jumped in the 1.45m. Then it picked up speed. He has the right rider at the moment with Jérôme Guéry. In Lanaken he jumped really great, where he triumphed at the Sires of the World. He has developed a lot!

3. Do you advise people to buy a foal at the Foal Auction Prinsjesdag?
Everyone has to make their own assessment, but I buy foals at the auction every year. The advantage of an auction is that the horses are pre-selected. You already start with the best foals of the year and they are interestingly bred. These horses are usually no longer for sale as 4- or 5-year-olds. Once in professional hands, they will not be released on the market until they have developed in the sport. It is admittedly a little more difficult to recognize the talent in showjumping horses than in dressage horses, but if the model is good, they have a very light-footed canter and athletic ability, this gives expectations for the future.

“Alicante has exceeded my expectations”

Buyer: Jan Schep

1. When did you buy Alicante?
“I bought Alicante from Egbert Schep as a three-year-old after his designation as a breeding stallion.”

2. How did Alicante's training go?
“He was slightly hit by a car the first year with us. After that he went to Marc Houtzager and Julia Kayser where his training was professionally provided by them. The quality came later than we thought. It turned out that he had some difficulty with the combination of the breeding and the practice of the sport. Alicante had trouble building muscle. Then we decided to take the nine-year-old stallion out of stud. This worked out well and he got stronger and stronger. Alicante was then sold in 2015 and is now owned by Tal Milstein where the stallion is ridden by Jérôme Guéry.”

3. Did Alicante live up to your expectations?
“We bought Alicante for the stud farm. We are real line breeders. The stallion Cantos had done a very good job with us and we were looking for a new stallion for the mares. Alicante lived up to our expectations. He has a very stable character and good descendants are produced. He has certainly fulfilled his expectations for breeding, there are very best horses from him. In terms of sport, Alicante has more than exceeded my expectations.”

4. Do you advise people to buy a foal at the Foal Auction Prinsjesdag?
“I think that the auctions are developing well at the moment. At the beginning of the auctions I was a bit skeptical, because you still had to look at the foals individually with a critical eye on leg positions, etc. Nowadays the selection has become much stricter. I think that a buyer should be able to blindly trust that he is buying a good foal. So yes, if the selection remains as strict as it is now and the foals are impeccable, then I'm in favour. Even then, it is of course an adventure and there are many factors in rearing and training that determine whether a foal becomes a topper or not.”

“Alicante is nimble, careful and also very handsome. He has everything!”

1. What makes Alicante so special to you?
“Alicante is a very complete horse. He is very nice to ride and is a very good stallion for breeding. Alicante is careful, agile and also very handsome. He has everything! †

2. How does Alicante get along? How is he to drive?
“He has a very nice character and is easy to drive. He is very flexible in his body and jumps very carefully. My dressage instructor also loves it. In the stable, the Casall son sometimes shows that he is a stallion, but as soon as I ride him, he listens and I can pass mares without any problems, etc.”

3. How is Alicante stabled?
“Ali, that's what we call him in the stable, has a real personality and likes to get a lot of attention. That's why we sometimes call him Prince Ali. He has a special box in the corner where he can look both in and out. If you walk past him and you don't look at him, he knocks on the door.”

4. What is the best experience you have experienced with Alicante so far?
“Our victory in the Sires of the World in Lanaken was very special. Our win in Chantilly's Global Champions Tour was also fantastic. We were close to victory in Monaco too!”

5. What is your planning with Alicante?
“For the next month and a half, the focus will be on covering. Then we will prepare for some Global Champions Tour matches. I hope I can get a place in the top three there. Alicante is one of my top horses, maybe we can win a place in the Belgian team at the European Championships this summer.”

6. Do you advise people to buy a foal at the auction? Or do you advise a three- or four-year-old?
“At an auction you know that the foals have quality and are well-bred. It just takes a long time for a foal to be ready for competitions, so as a rider I prefer to buy a three or four year old. However, my wife likes to buy foals at auction. In other words, we do indeed buy foals at auctions!

After NMK champion, also KWPN Stallion Inspection Champion from Prinsjesdag

The past year was very successful at the KWPN inspections for both Foal Auction Prinsjesdag and the RS2 Dressage Center. After the NMK championship title of Iveniz Texel, bought by RS2 Dressage on Prinsjesdag, the Jameson RS2 auctioned as an embryo became champion of the KWPN Stallion Selection. A wonderful success for Saskia and Jacques Lemmens, Robin van Lierop and Seth Boschman of the successful dressage stable RS2 Dressage Center de Horst.

Jameson RS2 (Blue Hors Zack out of Atilinda M keur preferent IBOP(dres) sport (dres) by Negro) was bred by Stal 104 out of Wijdewormer van Willeke Bos, but Jameson was already sold as an embryo. At Foal Auction Prinsjesdag in 2013, the then unborn Jameson was put up for auction. His particularly interesting pedigree appealed to Robin van Lierop and Seth Boschman. "We knew the mother well and dared to take the gamble," Robin van Lierop told De Paardenkrant / Horses.nl. “It was a surprise egg”, says Saskia Lemmens of RS2 Dressage about Jameson RS2.

Dam Atilinda M was already performing at Small Tour level under Peter de Boer and this mare also showed all her talent in the PAVO Cup. Atilinda M is now ridden by Yessin Rahmouni, who is preparing the talented Negro mare for the Grand Prix. Sire Blue Hors Zack was already champion of the KWPN Stallion Selection at the time and descends from the foundation stallion Rousseau – also auctioned at Foal Auction Prinsjesdag.
Stallion selection committee chairman Bert Rutten was full of praise for the convincing champion Jameson RS2. "He has a fantastic canter, a lot of switching power, self-carriage and balance in movement," said the chairman.

Foal Auction Prinsjesdag congratulates breeder Willeke Bos van Stal 104 and owners Saskia and Jacques Lemmens, Robin van Lierop and Seth Boschman on this great success of Jameson RS2!

Prinsjesdag jumping stallion O'Neil vd Bisschop appointed for KWPN performance test

Foal Auction Prinsjesdag also had several great successes at the KWPN Stallion Inspection in Den Bosch this year. In the jumping direction, Prinsjesdag was appointed O'Neil vd Bisschop, who was auctioned in 2014 for the KWPN performance test. O'Neil vd Bisschop was bred by the De Craene family from Melle and owned by Ben van Mierlo from Koningslust.

O'Neil vd Bishop (Diamant de Semilly out of Jade vd Bisschop of Ogano Sitte) showed his jumping talents in Den Bosch; O'Neil has good impulsion, a lot of scope and seems very careful. His dam line is also very interesting: dam Jade is already jumping at international 1.40m level and is a daughter of the Grannus mare Priscilla. This mare is the foundation of famous international show jumpers such as Holland van den Bisschop (Remco Been), Estina (Samantha McIntosh) and the approved stallions Dulf van den Bisschop, Arizona and Maestro van den Bisschop.

Subsequently, Foal Auction Prinsjesdag was also represented several times in the Blom Stallion Competition. In the L class jumped the extremely talented Hernandez TN (Kannan out of Bea-Leva elite IBOP(spr) sport(spr) by Numero Uno, breeder Willem Dekker, Benningbroek) under Zoï Snels to a nice fifth place in the final standings. Also the also sold on Prinsjesdag Highlander (Numero Uno out of Ditty Dante C elite IBOP(spr) by Vingino, breeder MAM Lamers-Couwenberg, Helde) showed himself well in the final under Kristian Houwen and jumped convincingly clear.

The top talent Edinburgh (Vleut out of Olympic Queen keur performance sport(jump) by Darco, breeders EJ Meijer & G. Lindeboom, Dalfsen) jumped clear in the 1.40m VHO Trophy under Kristian Houwen. The only eight-year-old stallion then showed his talent in the jump-off and signed for a nice third place.

Boston STH and Denise Nekeman win U25 Jumping Amsterdam

The top combination Denise Nekeman and Boston STH convincingly won the U25 Cup at Jumping Amsterdam last night. The Johnson son Boston STH was auctioned as a foal at Foal Auction Prinsjesdag.

Denise Nekeman and Boston STH drove a fantastic score of 72,75% and are therefore more than one percent ahead of the competition in the Zegwaard Sewer Stopping U25 Cup. The end for Boston and Denise Nekeman seems far from in sight, because for tough exercises such as the passage and the substitutions every two, the combination scored 8's.

32,000 euros for Heliotrop HBZ in Sale of the Rising Stars

The Heliotrop HBZ, sold at Foal Auction Prinsjesdag, was sold for a nice price of 32,000 euros in the Sale of the Rising Stars last Saturday evening.

Heliotrop HBZ – a son of Tornesch out of the same mare as Willem Greve's top talent Formidable – showed himself particularly talented in the auction presentation in Drachten on Saturday afternoon. The careful, powerful jumping gelding already won several De Wolden Cup competitions for four-year-old show jumpers last summer and was spotted there by Sale of the Rising Stars organizer Teus van den Brink. The now five-year-old Heliotrop HBZ left for his new owner for a good price.

Prinsjesdag youngsters perform excellently

Attention is often focused on the Prinsjesdag toppers at the very highest level, but it is precisely this new group of emerging Prinsjesdag horses that is also particularly interesting. And these 'Prinsjesdag-youngsters' are currently doing great!

The just six year old Get Off (Numero Uno x Indoctro – full brother of Take Off) under the Irish top rider Trevor Breen is already successfully jumping at international level and has performed well in the young horse classes in Oliva in recent weeks. At the five-year-olds Creswell LVP Z (Casall x Quantum) also doing well in Oliva. Creswell jumped many times clear in the international classes under the Belgian Lieven Devos.

Closer to home in Drachten, the now eight-year-old VDL Groep Elexia and mr. Europe their business card. Yesterday in the international class for seven- and eight-year-old show jumpers, VDL Groep Elexia (Calvaro Z x Alexis Z) under top rider Leopold van Asten finished in second place. Last weekend, Mr. Europe (Mr. Blue x Cassini I) also did well in Drachten by finishing seventh in the 1.40m class under the saddle of Marc Houtzager.

Foal Auction Prinsjesdag celebrates 25th anniversary with free breeding

2017 is a special year for the Foal Auction Prinsjesdag, this year the 25ste edition of the auction. Various activities are planned around this anniversary this year, the kick-off will be during the KWPN Stallion Inspection. The Foal Auction Prinsjesdag has a special promotion for breeders and interested parties.

After the KWPN stallion selection from 1 to 4 February in Den Bosch, a breeding stallion of a dressage stallion and a jumping stallion will be raffled among everyone who has registered his or her (unborn) foal for the selection and/or has registered for the newsletter at the foal auction stand.

The winners can choose from one of the stallions that will be approved this spring during the KWPN performance test. Although Foal Auction Prinsjesdag often auctions foals from proven stallions, the board is very supportive of the use of a young, talented stallion from performance families. Which young prince suits your mare best? Everyone is also welcome at the stand for information, coffee and/or a drink.
