Auction order Foal Auction Prinsjesdag announced; register now as an online bidder!

62 jumping and dressage foals will be auctioned on Tuesday 15 September at Foal Auction Prinsjesdag and here you will find the auction order† From 2 pm these exclusive foals will be auctioned by auctioneer Koen Olaerts and you can bid on the interesting collection both on site and online.

Foal Auction Prinsjesdag starts next Tuesday at 2:00 pm with charity; part of the proceeds of the filly Quality of Darena WD Z (Quabri de l'Isle x Celano) goes to research into the treatment of melanoma cancer. The 38 jumping foals and 24 dressage foals then appear alternately on the track and both live and online bidders can place their bids.

From Jameson RS2 to Totilas, from Le Formidable to For Romance I
The dressage collection consists of a strictly selected group of foals – put together by selectors Lauw van Vliet and Jacques Verkerk. Excellent stallion and filly foals with the best pedigrees are part of the collection. Think of the offspring of promising stallions such as Jameson RS2, Just Wimphof, Livius, Le Formidable and Kjento; but also foals from proven Grand Prix stallions such as Totilas, Painted Black, Glock's Toto Jr. and For Romance I.
Well-known dam lines are also represented, including the performance line of Wim van der Linde from Texel, the lineage of Jerich Parzival, Governor and TC Athene, the Sonnevanck line and many others.

Half-brothers of Harley van de Bisschop & Halifax van het Kluizebos
Fred van Straaten and Willem van Hoof also managed to pull out all the stops for the show jumping collection for this September edition. Take Harley Optimus Z, for example, the three-quarter brother of Global Champions Tour winner Harley van de Bisschop. Or Umano de W&S – a Chacco Blue son from the same dam as former world number one Halifax van het Kluizebos.
A granddaughter of former world champion Liscalgot and a direct son of the Olympic mare Gibrouille du Lys are also part of the collection. Furthermore, the damlines of Qerly Chin, Glock's London, Usha van 't Roosakker, Emerald, VDL Glasgow van 't Merelsnest & Sapphire, Havinia & Zinius, Vindicat W & Woklahoma, Valentina van 't Heike and Larthago are amply represented by both interesting mares - as colts.

Fred van Straaten: “With this group of fillies you are investing in the future”

Prinsjesdag selector Fred van Straaten is full of expectations for the annual foal auction next Tuesday, September 15 in Ermelo. Foal Auction Prinsjesdag will auction 62 dressage and jumping foals both live and online from 2 pm; show jumping selector Fred van Straaten explains in particular the group of fillies.

“We have selected a nice number of interesting fillies for Foal Auction Prinsjesdag”, begins Fred van Straaten. “With this group of fillies you are investing in the future. As a two- or three-year-old you can already start using these mares for breeding and they can earn back the investment. This way you can immediately get a return on your investment and you can have a good sport horse at a later age.”

Fred van Straaten runs through the twelve fillies one by one:

Pixiedette S (Aganix du Seigneur x Clarimo x Voltaire):
“First of all, we bred the Aganix du Seigneur daughter from the Lupicor line. A striking foal that can perform and has a strong hind leg. A typical Aganix offspring and that is a real stallion to use; it gives attitude and strong sports bodies.”

Amanda-K van Kattenheye Z (Amadeo van 't Vossenhof x Zirocco Blue VDL x Corland):
“Father Amadeo is a young, promising stallion who has shown himself very well in the Belgian stallion competition. The dam of this foal Zoe-K van 't Kattenheye was recently at the top of the Belgian Cycle for five-year-olds under Tim van den Broeck and this is also the stock of Carthago. Definitely interesting!”

Andiamo Fee Z (Andiamo Semilly x I'm Special de Muze x Quasimodo Z):
“A foal with a nice print and a good way of cantering – really electric in his body. She also has a nice blood build with I'm Special de Muze on the mother's side; I'm Special is starting to break through with his offspring. Then Quasimodo Z who has fully proven himself and then from such a strong Dutch stock.”

Chardonnay van Kattenheye Z (Chacfly PS x Nabab de Rêve x Marius Claudius):
“Chacfly can sometimes take over from his sire Chacco Blue, so a daughter of this stallion is certainly interesting. In addition, this foal goes back to the Grand Prix mare Sea Coast Ferly; this Qerly Chin strain provides a lot of security for the future.”

Chic Future RL Z (Cornet Obolensky x Cartano x Galoubet A):
“This Cornet Obolensky foal is well put together; a beautiful foal. She also comes from a good stock. Mother jumped in the sport herself and already gave in an international show jumper and grandmother gave two Grand Prix show jumpers.”

El Paso Z (El Barone 111 Z x Calvaro Z x Capitol I):
“El Barone is a very special stallion; if you see him jumping again recently in Valkenswaard, just after such a busy breeding season. This is a very interesting foal straight out of the top mare Capitola Z, who has produced many good horses over the years.”

Philadelphia V (El Barone 111 Z x Eldorado van de Hexagon TN x Lux Z):
“This dam line has already produced many serious sport horses; the dam and grandmother of this foal both jumped well in sport. The mare Bermuda forms the basis of many international show jumpers. In addition, this is an elegant foal that can walk easily.”

Havanna Z (Halifax van het Kluizebos x Sandro Boy x Chellano Z):
“We have successfully auctioned foals from this line before. This line of Larthago has been amply proven and that is not only because of Larthago itself. Sandro Girl Z, the dam of this foal, also produced a number of excellent sport horses. There is enough to say about this dam line!”

Ulise van 't Merelsnest (Kasanova de la Pomme x Mr. Blue x Voltaire):
“With this filly, the upcoming stallion Kasanova de la Pomme is paired with the top line of the Van Bunder family; the strain of Sapphire and VDL Glasgow van 't Merelsnest. Kasanova de la Pomme is living up to it in sport and breeding – that stallion is really coming.”

Kato vh Gebergte Z (Kazan Z x Numero Uno x Lys de Darmen):
“A very tough foal with a strong body and a super canter. A really special foal from a very special tribe; this Van 't Heike line gives sports on all sides. Sire Kazan Z is still a young stallion, but with his pedigree he does have the potential to become a top stallion.”

On Fire vd Berghoeve Z (O'Neill van 't Eigenlo x Kassander van 't Roosakker x For Pleasure):
“This is perhaps one of the most interesting fillies. If you look at this blood structure with the upcoming breeding stallions O'Neill and Kassander and then proven stallions and mares who have really proven it themselves. Grandmother jumps Grand Prix and great-grandmother is the former World Champion Liscalgot – talking about attitude and hardness. In addition, this foal is extra interesting because of the strong Irish dam line; different blood, but proven.”

Quality of Darena WD Z (Quabri de L'isle x Celano x Farmer):
“Nice gesture from the Dekker family to make this foal available for charity. Immediately a striking foal with his special markings and good way of moving. Sire Quabri de l'Isle is one of the best sport stallions of recent years.”

Quabri de l'Isle foal Quality of Darena WD Z auctioned for charity

On Tuesday September 15, Foal Auction Prinsjesdag will auction the filly Quality of Darena WD Z for research into the treatment of melanoma cancer. A portion of the proceeds from the Quabri de l'Isle filly will be donated to this research. Quality of Darena WD Z is made available by the Dekker family from Benningbroek.

“This spring, our long-standing loyal driver Willem Dekker passed away from the consequences of melanoma cancer,” says Foal Auction Prinsjesdag chairman Arjan van der Waaij. “In consultation with the Dekker family, the board of Foal Auction Prinsjesdag has decided this year to focus on research into the treatment of this disease for a good cause.”

Willem Dekker's wife Anja and daughters Mariëlle and Yvette decided to make their filly Quality of Darena WD Z available and to donate part of the proceeds to research into the treatment of melanoma cancer.
Quality of Darena WD Z is a filly by the top stallion Quabri de l'Isle out of the Celano daughter Darena. With her excellent pedigree and sporty dam line, Quality of Darena WD Z endorses the longstanding motto of Foal Auction Prinsjesdag: 'The Power of Performance'. Dam Darena produced the jumping talents Incredible WD and Happy Feet WD and is closely related to Grand Prix show jumpers such as Twister, Osina and Evander HS.

Foal Auction Prinsjesdag takes place on Tuesday 15 September at the KNHS center in Ermelo. Due to the corona measures, the auction will be organized outdoors this year and therefore the auction will take place during the day. There is also the option to bid online. The auction starts at 2:00 PM.

Foal Auction Prinsjesdag live in the open air with guests

Taking into account all government and RIVM guidelines, Foal Auction Prinsjesdag will organize a live auction on Tuesday 15 September – albeit in a modified variant. The location remains unchanged; Traditionally, Foal Auction Prinsjesdag will take place at the KNHS center in Ermelo. The set-up and decoration are different from normal, for example, the foal auction will take place in the open air with space for a limited number of VIP guests and invited guests.

In addition to the 59 already published foals, three wild card foals will also be auctioned by Koen Olaerts on Tuesday 15 September. In order to comply with all guidelines, Foal Auction Prinsjesdag has drawn up a careful and extensive corona plan. Unfortunately, the organization is only allowed to receive a limited number of guests during the live auction this year, but everyone has the option to bid online for the exclusive foals.

Unique Prinsjesdag atmosphere
The VIP box is divided into several separate tents around the auction arena, each with two VIP tables for four people. In this way the 1,5 meter distance rule can be applied, but the organization still tries to create the unique atmosphere of Foal Auction Prinsjesdag.

Foal viewing
The dressage and show jumping foals will be auctioned in one auction this year from 2 pm. Since applying the corona measures in a traditional foal presentation seems difficult to achieve, this has been cancelled. From 12:00 noon, interested parties will have the opportunity to view the foals in and around the stable complex in order to get a good impression of the collection. Naturally, all foals appear live in the arena during the auction.

Program
The schedule for Tuesday, September 15 is as follows:
Arrival foals 09:00 – 11:30 hrs
View foals 12:00 – 13:30
Reception of guests 13:30 – 14:00
Auction starts at 14:00 o'clock

If you are interested in one or more Prinsjesdag foals and would like to attend the auction, please register as soon as possible via info@prinsjesdag.eu† For online bids you can register at online.prinsjesdag.eu/register.

Foal Auction Prinsjesdag unveils brilliant foal collection for September auction

22 dressage foals and 37 jumping foals will be auctioned by Koen Olaerts on Tuesday 15 September at Foal Auction Prinsjesdag. Although these carefully selected foals can also be bid online, Foal Auction Prinsjesdag also intends to hold a live auction on 15 September at the KNHS Center in Ermelo. “We are keeping a very close eye on current developments regarding the corona measures and are adjusting our auction accordingly,” explains chairman Arjan van der Waaij.

Both the dressage and show jumping collections consist of foals that meet the strict selection criteria of Foal Auction Prinsjesdag, time and again under the motto of 'The Power of Performance'. “We are very pleased that, after two online auctions, we can close this season for Foal Auction Prinsjesdag with a live auction,” says Arjan van der Waaij. “Soon we will announce the details about the further implementation and visitors and VIP guests can register to attend the auction.”

Dressage collection with different highlights
With the very strong group of 22 dressage foals, Foal Auction Prinsjesdag hopes to be able to make a difference. “We think that our collection is far above average with a few unusual highlights”, says Lauw van Vliet, who is responsible for the dressage selection together with Jacques Verkerk. “There are several foals who, in addition to excellent models and movements, also come from very successful stocks. In addition, several colts are highly interesting for the stallion selection in a few years' time. The dressage foals showed themselves very well on the photo/video days, so I think the videos speak for themselves”, explains Lauw van Vliet.

Talent for sport and breeding
With fifteen promising colts, the dressage collection has a lot of potential with regard to stallion breeding. For example, the collection consists of interesting sons of Grand Prix stallions such as Glock's Toto Jr, For Romance I, Totilas and Painted Black, but also promising stallions such as Jameson RS2 and Just Wimphof are well represented. “A notable son of Just Wimphof, for example, is Power of Dreams – bred out of a Johnson dam. The Totilas son Patron du Coeur, out of a mare by Stedinger, is also a foal with enormous potential. This colt was only a few weeks old on the photo/video day, but it is a very special specimen," says Lauw van Vliet.
The group of seven fillies also consists of top talents for both sport and breeding. “Take the Daily Diamond foal Princess Lady Texel, for example, who can just follow her excellently auctioned stable mates”, Van Vliet refers to the time and again popular breeding products from Wim van der Linde from De Cocksdorp, Texel. Interesting daughters of Desperado NOP, Ebony, In Style, Glock's Toto Jr, Totilas and Just Wimphof also feature in the auction collection.

Best from European soil in jumping collection
The world's best dam lines are represented in the collection of 37 jumping foals, put together by Fred van Straaten and Willem van Hoof. Think, for example, of foals from the line of Usha van 't Roosakker, the line of Qerly Chin, the Van 't Merelsnest dam line or the line of Glock's London and Ta Belle van Sombeke. But also Dutch top dam lines come to the fore in the jumping collection, such as the Lottie line, the line of Larthago and the dam lines of, for example, Gancia de Muze and Zinius. “We think we have selected an excellent group of jumping foals for this September edition,” says Willem van Hoof on behalf of the selection committee. “On paper, several foals stand out, but also in terms of quality foals I think we have a really strong collection. Foals with good models and fantastic canters – in both the mare and the colts.”

Son of Olympic mare Gibrouille du Lys
The show jumping collection includes a group of fillies that can also make a difference in breeding. Think of the Chacfly PS daughter Chardonnay van Kattenheye Z – a granddaughter of CSI5* mare Sea Coast Ferly, or Ulise van 't Merelsnest – a daughter of Kasanova de la Pomme straight out of the line of Sapphire and VDL Glasgow van 't Mereslnest. Kato van het Gebergte – bred out of the sister of Valentina van 't Heike – and El Passo Z – El Barone 111 daughter out of top mare Capitola Z – are also some of the many examples of excellent fillies from the Prinsjesdag show jumping collection.
In addition, there are various colts that have extra opportunities for sport as well as for later stallion inspections. What about Harley Optimus Z – the three-quarter brother of Global Champions Tour winner Harley van de Bisschop – or Chic Philyra VV Z – a son of Cornet Obolensky out of the Olympic mare Gibrouille du Lys.

All in all, the September collection of Foal Auction Prinsjesdag is well worth studying further and from now on the complete collection is online at www.prinsjesdag.eu.
For more information about Foal Auction Prinsjesdag, please contact us without any obligation info@prinsjesdag.eu and for specific questions about the selected foals, the full selection committee will also be happy to assist you. For dressage: Jacques Verkerk (+316 55140470) and Lauw van Vliet (+316 22516452); for jumping: Fred van Straaten (+316 53371860) and Willem van Hoof (+316 20640895).

Jacques Verkerk in selection committee Foal Auction Prinsjesdag

After being a member of the dressage selection committee of Foal Auction Prinsjesdag for more than ten years, Bert Poppelaars has resigned from his duties. He will be replaced next season by Jacques Verkerk, who has a lot of experience in assessing and selecting foals.

Jacques Verkerk will therefore be responsible for the selection of dressage foals together with Lauw van Vliet, while Fred van Straaten and Willem van Hoof will again focus on the selection of jumping foals for Foal Auction Prinsjesdag next season. Partly because of his age and the busy work that the role of selector entails, Bert Poppelaars has decided to stop after years of being associated with one of the leading foal auctions in Europe. The board is very grateful to Bert for the years of dedication, time and energy he has invested in Foal Auction Prinsjesdag. Last year again an average price for dressage foals of over 10,000 euros was achieved.

good expectations
“The board of Foal Auction Prinsjesdag has approached me to get started as a selector and that is a position that suits me well. I follow international sport and breeding closely and have selected foals for over 15 years. Foal Auction Prinsjesdag has a strong reputation, especially when it comes to jumping foals. I think it's a great challenge to ensure, together with Lauw, that we also continue to belong to the top with the dressage foals”, responds Jacques Verkerk. “You see at all auctions that the difference between the dressage and show jumping auctions is increasing. That starts with a different selection, but the experience is also very different at the auction itself. With the jumping foals it is largely about the expectations on paper, with the dressage foals it is much more 'what you see is what you get'. The presentation of the foals is decisive, certainly on the auction day itself. It is therefore about the very best dressage foals, because the bar is set high at Foal Auction Prinsjesdag. That makes it very interesting for me.”

Foal Auction Prinsjesdag on September 11 and 12 in 2018

In 2018, the 26th edition of Foal Auction Prinsjesdag will take place on the second Tuesday and Wednesday of September. With this, the auction deviates from the tradition of auctioning on Prinsjesdag (the third Tuesday in September), because of the World Equestrian Games in Tryon, which start on September 19. The organization of the Foal Auction Prinsjesdag in 2018 will no longer be in the hands of equestrian project agency EQ International. After a collaboration of 15 years, the Foal Auction Prinsjesdag Foundation and EQ International diverge.

Good cooperation of 15 years

The Foal Auction Prinsjesdag Foundation has worked very pleasantly and successfully with EQ International since 2003. The board would like to thank EQ International for their efforts and contribution to the development of the auction. Together they have brought the auction to where it is now in the market; a two-day event where the best jumping and dressage foals in Europe are auctioned. An initiative such as Embryoauction.com has also been developed and realized in collaboration with EQ.

The Foal Auction Prinsjesdag Foundation is currently preparing the organization for 2018. Chairman Arjan van der Waaij: “The Foal Auction Prinsjesdag will continue in the same way in 2018 and set up an auction as breeders, buyers and relations are used to.

With the same ambition and professionalism, we continue to work on realizing our motto 'the Power of Performance'.

“Every time I see Pablo I get a smile on my face!”

Amazon: Ava MacCoubrey

1. What makes Pablo so special to you?

“Pablo is a very special horse. It was love at first sight when we met and we bonded right away. Every time I see Pablo, I get a smile on my face. He is such a good horse and he is so sweet to all the people around him.”

2. How is Pablo to drive?

“He is certainly not the easiest horse to ride. Although he is a real learning horse and does everything correctly, he is a challenge and that is what I love about him. Lori Bell, his owner was his previous rider. She rode Grand Prix with him.”

3. How is Pablo in the stable?
“Pablo is very social in the stable. He always stands with his head out of the stall and always has his ears forward when you walk by. He loves to eat and will do anything for a treat! When it's feeding time, he neighs to make sure you don't forget to feed him."

4. What's the best thing you've experienced with Pablo so far?

“Pablo guided me through my first international competitions and my first year riding in the juniors. This year we went to the North American Dressage Junior Championships. We finished in the top ten all three days and I was the best Canadian rider in the ranking with him. I think that was our best performance. Pablo has recently retired. He is back with his owner and during the day he enjoys a very large meadow. He also loves to ride outside.”

5. Have you ever visited a foal auction? Would you buy a foal at an auction or would you prefer to buy a three or four year old?
“I've never attended an auction, but it's definitely something I want to do in the future. I think I would prefer to buy a three or four year old.”

“Pablo made my dream of racing GP come true!”

Owner: Lori Bell

1. Why did Pablo speak to you when you bought him?
“I bought Pablo twelve years ago as an eight-year-old through Egbert Kraak. I import and sell horses, but bought Pablo as a training horse for myself. He appealed to me because he was good, nice to ride and he was already trained to almost Prix St. George level.

2. Did Pablo live up to your expectations?
“Pablo made my dreams come true. He was my first horse that I rode Grand Prix dressage with, a wish I had for a long time. I drove it myself for ten years; of which three years in the Grand Prix. For the last two years, Ava MacCoubrey has competed him internationally among the juniors. Pablo was not spectacular in his movements, but has a heart of gold. He always does his best for you and that's why he reached the Grand Prix. Together we climbed the road to the Grand Prix. Pablo has always been a patient and cooperative teacher for me. In competitions he was very reliable and in the ring he always gave his best. We have only raced the Grand Prix at the national level in Canada. We always scored very consistently around 60% (scores between 58 and 62%) in over thirty tests. Very nice scores for us together. I was eager to learn and he patiently tried his best every time. He really has a fantastic character”.

3. Do you have a special bond with Pablo?
“Pablo is very special to me for several reasons. Obviously because we spent a lot of time together over the past twelve years, but also the way he came into my life. My father unfortunately died in a car accident and with his inheritance I was able to buy this fantastic horse. That is why Pablo has always had a very special place in my heart.”

4. How is Pablo in the stable?
“He is a sweet horse, who is a little bit of a spoiled little prince. He has a nice character; cheerful, but he does want attention as if he knows he is very special.”

5. What is the most beautiful thing you have experienced with Pablo?
“The best thing about my driving career with Pablo was that we reached the Grand Prix together and drove at this level for three years. Thanks to him I have learned so much in dressage that I have now trained my fourth horse to Grand Prix level. Pablo gave me the skill to now successfully ride at an international level with different horses. A few months ago, Pablo returned home after two years with Ava in the juniors. Ava learned a lot from him and Pablo finished his career with a 7e place (out of 35) in the North American Dressage Junior Championships. He is now retired and enjoys spending whole days in the meadow with his new mate, a quarter horse.”
