Foal Auction Prinsjesdag aims for a live auction in September

Due to the policy relaxation of the government regarding the corona virus, Foal Auction Prinsjesdag sees an opportunity to organize a live auction in September. This auction will traditionally take place on Tuesday 15 September – whether the show jumping and dressage auction will be spread over two days will be announced later. “We hope to conclude a successful auction season in the familiar Prinsjesdag style with this live auction,” explains chairman Arjan van der Waaij.

After the successful online edition in June, the focus of the Foal Auction Prinsjesdag team is currently on the upcoming online auction on Tuesday 21 July. An online auction is also planned for Tuesday 18 August – after that Foal Auction Prinsjesdag aims to have a physical auction in September.

“With regard to the quality of the foals and the options for the buyers, everything remains the same – both online and with the live auction, we strive for the highest attainable level, and online bidding is also possible during the live auction”, Arjan van der Waaij looks ahead . "We hope that the live auction can take place in September for both the breeders and the customers of Foal Auction Prinsjesdag, but of course this depends on government regulations and recommendations from RIVM."

Although Foal Auction Prinsjesdag has a tradition of live auctions, the online auctions will most likely be a permanent format. “We believe 100% in online auctions and over the past few weeks we have seen the success of this at both our own and other auctions. With regard to the live auction, we will also focus more than before on the online buyers' audience – we hope to be able to appeal to an international buyers audience with both the online and the so-called hybrid auctions," concludes Arjan van der Waaij.

Foal Auction Prinsjesdag well off the start with online auction

The first of the series of online foal auctions of Foal Auction Prinsjesdag had its climax tonight. With a proceeds of 29,000 euros, the Comme Il Faut filly Chickey Z turned out to be the topper of the auction, in which good average prices were achieved and an international buyers audience was reached.

The ten jumping and seven dressage foals could be bid online in recent days and tonight the showdown took place by means of an online auction organized in the studio. As auctioneer, Peter van der Waaij once again explained the foals presented via video images and the online bids could be followed up, after which the live auction followed. “Many bids have already been made in the pre-auction in recent days and we saw in the live auction tonight that quite a bit more was being bid on some foals”, chairman Arjan van der Waaij looks back with satisfaction. Extensive images and veterinary information were available on the website, so that buyers from all over the world could make a well-prepared bid.

performance genes
Among the jumping foals, Chickey Z (Comme Il Faut x Berlin, breeder family Sleutels/Keystud), bred from the prominent Van 't Roosakker line, and Cleopatra PB Z (Cornet Obolensky x Baloubet du Rouet, breeder Peter Bastiaansen) formed as a half-sister of the Grand Prix stallion Carrera VDL with prices of €29,000 and €28,000 with clear highlights. In doing so, they are continuing the trend of investing heavily in genetically interesting fillies. “We were able to achieve an average price of 12,850 for the jumping foals and there were several clear peaks. There was a lot of international interest in the foals and tonight we were able to do business with buyers from Switzerland, Italy, France, Colombia and Germany, among others.” With a price of €19,000, the Coen Wijlaars bred Choco Blue de Melodie (Chacoon Blue x Nabab de Rêve) was the most expensive colt. He comes from the brilliant line of top mare Fragance de Chalus.

Higher average
In the second part of the evening, the hammer fell for the dressage foals. In it, Peer Gynt (Jameson RS2 x Dante Weltino, breeder Nathalie Smeets) took home the top prize of €22,000. This top talent was purchased by Djedy and Donick Dontje of Xanthos Horses. Another three foals came in at a price of at least €10,000, which means that the seven dressage foals brought in an average of €10,640. “It was certainly an exciting evening. We're early in the season, it's an online auction and there was a chance that buyers would be a little hesitant. Fortunately, both selection committees did a fantastic job and we were able to present two strong collections here. We were even able to realize a higher average price for the dressage foals than in last year's physical auction. We look back with great satisfaction on this first online auction. And from tomorrow we look forward to the next auction, the denouement of which is scheduled for July 21st. Because we can also present very interesting and high-quality foals there too,” says Arjan van der Waaij.

A warm memory of Willem Dekker

Today May 30th, we learned that our highly valued board member Willem Dekker passed away last night after a long period of illness.

Willem Dekker (67) was characterized by his great passion for horses and a positive attitude to life. Together with his wife Anja and his daughters Mariëlle and Yvette, Willem focused on breeding jumping and dressage horses from Benningbroek in North Holland. His breeding has produced the approved stallions Hernandez TN (s.Kannan), Fire King WD (s.Toulon) and Kaiden Leva WD (s.Kannan).

From 2008 Willem was part of the board of Foal Auction Prinsjesdag. In addition to being a great horse lover, he also turned out to be a real connector. Willem liked to go along with the selectors and knew many fellow breeders. He was a man who loved to tackle and had great perseverance. Until the very end, Willem remained involved and enthusiastic about the Foal Auction Prinsjesdag.

With his passing, we not only say goodbye to a valuable board member, but also to a dear friend.
The board, selectors and stakeholders of Foal Auction Prinsjesdag cherish the beautiful memories and wish his wife Anja and their two daughters a lot of strength with this great loss.

On behalf of the board of Foal Auction Prinsjesdag,

Arjan van der Waaij
Chair

Naturally, the selection committee of Foal Auction Prinsjesdag will also work for the online editions under the motto 'The Power of Performance' and will look for the best and most interesting foals. Prinsjesdag Online: five exclusive embryos and a straw from Chacco Blue

Prinsjesdag Online will auction five exclusive embryos and a straw from Chacco Blue on Monday evening 16 March from 9 pm on www.prinsjesdagonline.eu. The collection consists of embryos from Scuderia 1918 Tobago Z, Aganix du Seigneur and Big Star, among others. In addition, Prinsjesdag Online is also auctioning a rare straw of frozen semen from the legendary Chacco Blue.

Monday, March 16, Prinsjesdag Online will auction the six auction items via a live online auction format. You can easily register via this link (https://prinsjesdag.weauction.nl/register) and you can bid online.

Scuderia 1918 Tobago Z combined with sister Emerald

The first embryo was bred directly from the mare Quattro Stagioni van 't Meulenhof, the full sister of the very talented stallion Nixon van 't Meulenhof and half sister of the world famous Emerald and the five-star Grand Prix show jumpers Diamanthina van 't Ruytershof and Ilusionata van 't Meulenhof. The sire of this first embryo is the world famous Scuderia 1918 Tobago Z; one of Daniel Deusser's top horses and winner of the Grand Prix of Oslo and Lyon and the World Cup Qualifiers of Madrid and Bordeaux.

Talent El Barone 111 Z 'meets' the Usha van 't Roosakker family

Prinsjesdag Online also offers an embryo of the extremely talented Emerald son El Barone 111 Z; one of the up-and-coming talents in Belgian show jumping and a very popular breeding stallion. This embryo was bred out of the promising mare Anusha Key SR Z – a daughter of Armitages Boy out of the very successful mare Grand Cru van 't Hagenhof. This Bentley van de Heffinck daughter has already produced several international show jumpers and is a daughter of the well-known Babbe van 't Roosakker – dam and grandmother of top show jumpers such as Erco van 't Roosakker, Dulhan de la Roque, Giorgio van 't Hagenhof, Geena, Jiva Imperio Egipcio, Kheros van 't Hoogeinde, Mystic van 't Hoogeinde and many more. Great-grandmother Usha van 't Roosakker is the foundation mother of the 'Van 't Roosakker' dynasty.

Aganix du Seigneur, Hickstead & the damline of Carthago

Embryo number 3 is a descendant of the up and coming top progenitor Aganix du Seigneur out of a mare of the legendary Olympic champion Hickstead. Via great-grandsire Numero Uno, the pedigree of this embryo goes back to the Grand Prix show jumping mare A-Cover Girl – herself successful with the Swede Thomas Nilsson and full sister of the two-time Olympic show jumper and foundation stallion Carthago. In combination with Aganix du Seigneur, dam Exceptional already produced the very talented approved stallion Asterix de Couleur.

Olympic champion Big Star & 1.60m winner Andrea join forces

The fourth embryo in the Prinsjesdag Online collection was bred out of the 1.60m winner Andrea – one of Gert Jan Bruggink's most successful show jumpers ever. This competitive daughter of Marome NW won no fewer than 30 international classes under the saddle of Bruggink and later Abdullah Al Sharbatly, including the Grand Prix of Eindhoven, Dortmund, Bremen, Beervelde and Oldenburg. Andrea also successfully competed in the 2014 World Cup Finals in Lyon. Sire of this embryo is the world famous Big Star – the stallion who under Nick Skelton won Olympic team gold in 2012, won the Aachen Grand Prix in 2013 and individual Olympic champion in 2016. was in Rio de Janeiro.

Chacco Blue x Cornet Obolensky

The last embryo of this collection combines the leading progenitors Chacco Blue and Cornet Obolensky. Chacco Blue has been the undisputed number one in the WBFSH Sire Ranking for years thanks to world famous offspring such as Explosion W, Calisto Blue, Chalou, Chacco Kid, Blue Movie and many others. Cornet Obolensky is one of the most influential stallions of his generation and is currently represented by top show jumpers such as Clooney, Balou du Reventon, Comme Il Faut and Cornado NRW. The dam of this embryo, Cornet-Terma, produced the top talent Lykke Li-Terma Z, ridden by the Egyptian Nayel Nassar. Granddam Soterma is the dam of the Grand Prix stallion Brainpower, who was successful in the past under Willem Greve and now under the American Charlie Jacobs.

Exclusive opportunity: 1 straw Chacco Blue

Finally, Prinsjesdag Online also offers an exclusive straw of frozen semen from the one and only Chacco Blue: the number one supplier of showjumping horses at the moment. Unfortunately Chacco Blue died at the age of fourteen in 2012 and there is hardly any frozen semen available. With this straw you have the chance to use Chacco Blue for breeding and maybe breed a horse like Explosion W or Calisto Blue.

These six auction items will be auctioned on Monday 16 March via Prince's Day Online ), so register now and stay informed about this exclusive auction. The auction starts at 9 pm and for more information please contact online@prinsjesdag.eu.

Registrations for Prinsjesdag auctions open

For the third year in a row, Foal Auction Prinsjesdag is organizing an exclusive showjumping foal auction during CSI3* Ommen. Once again, a select group of extremely interesting future talents will be auctioned in this auction, which is scheduled for Saturday 11 July. Registrations are now open for both this auction and the regular auctions on 15 and 16 September in Ermelo.

In the 2019 edition of the auction at CSI Ommen, all foals were sold for a price of at least €10,000 and an average price of €12,500 was realized. The For Pleasure son O'Pleasure Ice from breeder Ton van Tilburg turned out to be the most expensive of the ten foals with a price of €19,000. This year, Foal Auction Prinsjesdag is again looking for absolute top foals. “We have set the bar high at Foal Auction Prinsjesdag. Every year we try to select foals that we can really make our customers happy with. Genetically interesting jumping foals with a lot of sport close by in the dam line, good models and ditto canter. Foals that can develop into toppers for both sport and breeding," says selector Willem van Hoof, who is responsible for the selection of the jumping foals together with Fred van Straaten. “For the exclusive auction in Ommen, we also want to select early-born foals, as the auction already takes place on 11 July.”

Register now
On the website www.prinsjesdag.eu the foals can now be registered for both the auction in Ommen and the regular auctions in Ermelo on 15 (jumping foals) and 16 (dressage foals) September. For the auctions in Ermelo, the first dates of the selection days can be found on the website, starting on May 22. For decades, Foal Auction Prinsjesdag has proven to be one of the best auctions in Europe and thus offers a fantastic stage for the top of the year.

Three Prinsjesdag references to top ten results in GP dressage

In addition to a number of internationally performing show jumpers, Foal Auction Prinsjesdag has also been strongly represented at the highest level in dressage in recent weeks. For example, First Apple (by Vivaldi) won several Grand Prix classes. Horses such as E'Special PS, Edinburgh, Baron and Thunder GZ provided great advertising in show jumping.

Nine-year-old Thunder GZ (Tyson x Dutch Capitol, breeder John Geerets) performed well on Spanish soil. In Oliva he jumped double clear with Mark McAuley to eighth prize in the 2* Grand Prix and last weekend the duo even finished second in the two-phase 1.45m at CSI3* Valencia. The KWPN-approved stallion Edinburgh (Vleut x Darco, breeders Evert Meijer and Gerard Lindeboom) has also found his niche with Maikel van der Vleuten. At the CSI5* in Doha this resulted in a second prize in the two-phase 1.45m, a fourth prize in the 1.45m against the clock and a seventh prize in the 1.50m. In February they had already made their mark by winning the 2* Grand Prix of Lier. At the CSI3* in Thermal, Karl Cook emerged as the winner in the classic 1.45m class with E'Special PS (Berlin x Caruso), bred by Peter Simons. In the 3* Grand Prix (1.50m) of Vilamoura, Roberto Turchetto jumped to third prize with the double clear jumping Baron (Colman x Numero Uno, breeder Stoeterij 't Heemskind). Another notable reference is Feeling Luckey (Bustique x Krunch de Brêve) who finished fourth in the 1.50m at CSI5*-W Sharjah with Karim Elzoghby and sixth in the 1.55m World Cup in Abu Dhabi.

Three times Grand Prix dressage
One of the most striking Prinsjesdag references at the highest level in dressage sport is the Vivaldi son First Apple (ds.TCN Partout). Sarah Lockman performs very remarkably with the chestnut bred by Nico van Maaswaal. In February they won the international Grand Prix Special at CDI3* Wellington as well as four (!) national Grand Prix classes at the same competition. They also performed strongly in the regular Grand Prix during the CDI3*, where they came in second. Boston STH (Johnson x Quattro B, breeder Jan Temmink) also did good business last month. Under Denise Nekeman the stallion took eighth prize twice with nice percentages. In the Freestyle, the Dutch duo even surpassed the 77%. At the national show in Wellington, the now 20-year-old (!) Akribori son MT.Athos (ds.Donnerschlag, breeder Ingrid Blonk) made the switch to Grand Prix dressage. Under Barbara Wendy Denton he finished sixth and eighth with percentages of around 60 percent.

Defender VDS Z approved at Zangersheide

After very convincing performances at the KWPN stallion selection, where he was selected for the performance test, Defender VDS Z also made a big impression at Zangersheide last weekend. The Dominator Z son, sold through Foal Auction Prinsjesdag, thus earned the breeding license.

The Daphne van der Schaar bred Defender VDS Z (Dominator Z x Padinus) will be covered this breeding season at Dekstation Enterbrook and already made a big impression at the beginning of this month during the KWPN Stallion Show. There, the stallion that Herman Verhagen bought in 2017 at Foal Auction Prinsjesdag turned out to be a public favourite. The black eye-catcher managed to take on that role again last weekend, in Lanaken, Belgium. After two days of free jumping, he will now go through life as a Zangersheide approved stallion. Defender VDS Z is bred out of a 1.40m jumping half sister of the high profile stallion Etoulon VDL (by Toulon), with whom Jur Vrieling is competing at international 1.50m level. Breeder and owner: congratulations!

Prinsjesdag Online presents six exclusive embryos

On Monday 3 February, Foal Auction Prinsjesdag will auction six extremely exclusive embryos via the new online platform Prinsjesdag Online. The very best dam lines in the world are represented in the collection of this first online edition.

Prinsjesdag Online auctions an embryo from a daughter of Niels Bruynseels' five-star showjumper Ilusionata van 't Meulenhof, several embryos from daughters of Electra van 't Roosakker and Babbe van 't Roosakker, a grandson or daughter of 1.60m showjumper Ciske van Overis , another embryo from the family of the legendary Usha van 't Roosakker and an embryo from a daughter of Grand Prix jumping mare Egie of Colors.

These six carefully selected embryos descend from the world's best stallions; Prinsjesdag Online is auctioning embryos of the number one of the moment Chacco Blue, of the jumping phenomenon Scuderia 1918 Tobago Z, of the foundation stallion Emerald, of the wildly successful Scuderia 1918 Halifax, the highly breeding Conthargos and the world-famous Tangelo van de Zuuthoeve.
