Foal Auction Prinsjesdag unveils brilliant foal collection for September auction

22 dressage foals and 37 jumping foals will be auctioned by Koen Olaerts on Tuesday 15 September at Foal Auction Prinsjesdag. Although these carefully selected foals can also be bid online, Foal Auction Prinsjesdag also intends to hold a live auction on 15 September at the KNHS Center in Ermelo. “We are keeping a very close eye on current developments regarding the corona measures and are adjusting our auction accordingly,” explains chairman Arjan van der Waaij.

Both the dressage and show jumping collections consist of foals that meet the strict selection criteria of Foal Auction Prinsjesdag, time and again under the motto of 'The Power of Performance'. “We are very pleased that, after two online auctions, we can close this season for Foal Auction Prinsjesdag with a live auction,” says Arjan van der Waaij. “Soon we will announce the details about the further implementation and visitors and VIP guests can register to attend the auction.”

Dressage collection with different highlights
With the very strong group of 22 dressage foals, Foal Auction Prinsjesdag hopes to be able to make a difference. “We think that our collection is far above average with a few unusual highlights”, says Lauw van Vliet, who is responsible for the dressage selection together with Jacques Verkerk. “There are several foals who, in addition to excellent models and movements, also come from very successful stocks. In addition, several colts are highly interesting for the stallion selection in a few years' time. The dressage foals showed themselves very well on the photo/video days, so I think the videos speak for themselves”, explains Lauw van Vliet.

Talent for sport and breeding
With fifteen promising colts, the dressage collection has a lot of potential with regard to stallion breeding. For example, the collection consists of interesting sons of Grand Prix stallions such as Glock's Toto Jr, For Romance I, Totilas and Painted Black, but also promising stallions such as Jameson RS2 and Just Wimphof are well represented. “A notable son of Just Wimphof, for example, is Power of Dreams – bred out of a Johnson dam. The Totilas son Patron du Coeur, out of a mare by Stedinger, is also a foal with enormous potential. This colt was only a few weeks old on the photo/video day, but it is a very special specimen," says Lauw van Vliet.
The group of seven fillies also consists of top talents for both sport and breeding. “Take the Daily Diamond foal Princess Lady Texel, for example, who can just follow her excellently auctioned stable mates”, Van Vliet refers to the time and again popular breeding products from Wim van der Linde from De Cocksdorp, Texel. Interesting daughters of Desperado NOP, Ebony, In Style, Glock's Toto Jr, Totilas and Just Wimphof also feature in the auction collection.

Best from European soil in jumping collection
The world's best dam lines are represented in the collection of 37 jumping foals, put together by Fred van Straaten and Willem van Hoof. Think, for example, of foals from the line of Usha van 't Roosakker, the line of Qerly Chin, the Van 't Merelsnest dam line or the line of Glock's London and Ta Belle van Sombeke. But also Dutch top dam lines come to the fore in the jumping collection, such as the Lottie line, the line of Larthago and the dam lines of, for example, Gancia de Muze and Zinius. “We think we have selected an excellent group of jumping foals for this September edition,” says Willem van Hoof on behalf of the selection committee. “On paper, several foals stand out, but also in terms of quality foals I think we have a really strong collection. Foals with good models and fantastic canters – in both the mare and the colts.”

Son of Olympic mare Gibrouille du Lys
The show jumping collection includes a group of fillies that can also make a difference in breeding. Think of the Chacfly PS daughter Chardonnay van Kattenheye Z – a granddaughter of CSI5* mare Sea Coast Ferly, or Ulise van 't Merelsnest – a daughter of Kasanova de la Pomme straight out of the line of Sapphire and VDL Glasgow van 't Mereslnest. Kato van het Gebergte – bred out of the sister of Valentina van 't Heike – and El Passo Z – El Barone 111 daughter out of top mare Capitola Z – are also some of the many examples of excellent fillies from the Prinsjesdag show jumping collection.
In addition, there are various colts that have extra opportunities for sport as well as for later stallion inspections. What about Harley Optimus Z – the three-quarter brother of Global Champions Tour winner Harley van de Bisschop – or Chic Philyra VV Z – a son of Cornet Obolensky out of the Olympic mare Gibrouille du Lys.

All in all, the September collection of Foal Auction Prinsjesdag is well worth studying further and from now on the complete collection is online at www.prinsjesdag.eu.

Diarado daughter auction topper second online Prinsjesdag auction

Via a live auction tonight the hammer fell for ten jumping and seven dressage foals in the second online auction of Foal Auction Prinsjesdag this year. The auction topper turned out to be the Diarado daughter Perla AASJ, sold for 20,000 euros. On average, the jumping foals achieved better prices than the dressage foals, but the quality will bring the ultimate success of this collection.

Nine out of ten foals in the jumping direction were sold and on average they realized a price of € 9,900. “It was very positive to see the bids from all over the world. Not only within Europe, but also from America and the United Emirates. We are pleased to note that the customer base of Foal Auction Prinsjesdag is still growing. This is due to the high quality of the foals selected for our auction and the long line of successful references”, explains chairman Arjan van der Waaij.

The market determines
The most expensive filly Perla AASJ (Diarado x For Pleasure, breeder Al Asayl Showjumping) remains in the Netherlands. There was a lot of interest in this talented great-granddaughter of the phenomenal mare Fragance de Chalus. Other jumping foals have been sold to Great Britain, Hungary and Scandinavia. “This time we had more colts than fillies in the jumping direction and in recent years we have continuously seen that top-bred fillies bring in the most money. This has also been proven in this auction. In the dressage foals this time we had considerably more mares than colts, five against two, and on average that sells less well. We are quite disappointed about the yield of the dressage foals, but of course it is the market that determines the current market value. They are all foals that meet our strict criteria, so we can only imagine that the buyers will be very happy with their new purchases. We could also see that for the dressage foals the bids came in the live auction, while for the jumping foals most of the bids were made in the preliminary phase.”

Good mood
The dressage foals fetched an average of €7,250 and with a price of €8,500 the elegant Pyria SC (Fürstenball x Vivaldi, breeder C. van der Mierden) was the best paid. Buyers from France and Belgium, among others, made their choice for the dressage foals. “We are very much looking forward to the third online auction, which will be completed on August 18. Then Foal Auction Prinsjesdag will be online on 15 September and hopefully with a traditional auction in Ermelo.”

This Friday the bidding can start

This Friday 17 July from 12 noon you can bid on the ten jumping and seven dressage foals that together form the promising collection of the second online auction of Foal Auction Prinsjesdag. On behalf of the selection committees, Jacques Verkerk and Fred van Straaten express their confidence in this strong group of foals.

The foal will be auctioned live on Tuesday 21 July from 7.30 pm and this online auction can be followed via ClipMyHorse and the livestream on the website of Foal Auction Prinsjesdag. You can register to bid in this auction via this link. (https://online.prinsjesdag.eu/register)

Dressage foals

“We were able to select seven dressage foals with very varied bloodlines for this July auction,” says Jacques Verkerk, who is responsible for the dressage selection together with Lauw van Vliet. “They are all foals with a great future ahead of them. Such as the Blue Hors Zackerey daughter Pursuit of Happiness, who moves with just as strong hind leg use as her sire and has won the online Blue Hors Foal Championship. The powerfully moving Le Formidable daughter Pendilia SIH is also a very spectacular moving filly. The filly Piacenza G is perhaps the most beautiful foal of Jameson RS2 of the entire season and she moves with a very good technique. A very athletic foal is the light-footed, uphill moving Fürstenball daughter Pyria SC.

The fifth filly from this collection is Petronella van de Moerhoek, a well-developed daughter of Lennox US who moves with a lot of front and power.” The colts Patser Buitenrust (by Glock's Toto Jr.) and Panamera (by Imposantos) complete the collection. “The Toto Jr. son is a very complete colt with a really good way of moving, a lot of power and he comes from a good sport line. Panamera is bred out of the full sister of High Five US and has three good basic gaits and moves with great ease.”

Jumping foals

Fred van Straaten is also delighted with the show jumping collection. “Of course the pedigree is important for the jumping foals, but the foal itself must also meet the highest standards and be athletic. For example, we are very happy to have a striking colt from the first crop of the top performing stallion All Star 5, with a good canter and dam line. Prime Minister is also a special foal, a son of Camargo out of a strong line. Udarcaheart-M offers the opportunity to purchase one of the last, modern Darco daughters. The Diamant de Semilly daughter Pearle W has a grandmother and great-granddam who both already produced Grand Prix horses and is therefore also interesting for sport and breeding”, Van Straaten sums up.

“That certainly also applies to Perla AASJ, a daughter of Diarado with the famous mare Fragance de Chalus in the third generation. A striking colt is DC Balou, descended from the successful Diaron, who also has a lot of sport at the front of the line. Then we have F-Marit VHS Z, a daughter of Falaise de Muze out of the full sister of the Grand Prix stallion Zèlote VDL. The colt Joker Z descends from the progenitor Jenson van 't Meulenhof in the making and goes back in the third generation to the Grand Prix mare Sea Coast Ferly. The blood-bred, good canter Leandro VG son Ulandro Touch JT is also a very special foal and with an extremely proven pedigree, the sporty Verdi son Picolot W also has a great future.”

Also in August and September auctions

The second online foal auction of Foal Auction Prinsjesdag will be completed on July 21, followed by two more auctions this season. The latest in a series of three online auctions is the August auction, which ends on Tuesday evening, August 18. Now that the corona measures have been further relaxed, the organization has decided to hold a traditional auction in Ermelo on 15 September.

As in previous years, an auction of top foals will take place on the third Tuesday in September at the KNHS center in Ermelo. In contrast to the editions of recent years, a single auction has been chosen with showjumping and dressage foals. “For both the breeders and the customers of Foal Auction Prinsjesdag, we are delighted to be able to present a physical auction in this special year. We expect to auction around 50 foals on 15 September in Ermelo”, chairman Arjan van der Waaij looks ahead.

Distinguished with vision and experience

For many breeders, foal auctions are the sales channel for their breeding products. Foal Auction Prinsjesdag has proven for more than 25 years to be an excellent bridge between buyers and sellers of foals in the higher quality segment. More than once the strict selection applied proves to be the key to success.

The list of successful references continues to expand for several reasons. Thanks to the trust that Foal Auction Prinsjesdag has built up over the past decades, the selection committees are given the opportunity to select the very best foals. And a satisfied buyer often turns out to be a returning buyer, which is how the Prinsjesdag Foal Auction has built up a strong international sales network.

Vision

“When selecting the dressage foals, we really pay attention to appeal. We want to immediately get the 'wow feeling' when the foal comes out of the stable. That there is a foal with appearance and attitude. Then we pay attention to the correctness and that the foal is well put together. As soon as the foal starts moving, we want that first impression to be confirmed, that a foal immediately shows what you can expect from a good dressage horse”, explains selector Jacques Verkerk. “Then we pay attention to the technique in movement, self-carriage, flexibility and behavior. Because if they have that naturally, it provides certainty for the future. The pedigree is supportive. We have selected quite a few fillies for the July auction, so it is very valuable that they all come from good stocks, so that they are also interesting for breeding. But a very well-bred foal that does not convince us in movement will not be added to the collection at Foal Auction Prinsjesdag.”

Pedigree and presentation

With the jumping foals the emphasis is more on the pedigree, but only athletic, correct and good canter foals are selected. “Purchasing a good foal is often quite an investment, so we want it to be worth that investment. Today's top horses are often only available as foals," explains selector Fred van Straaten. “Since we started to focus even more on the performances in the dam's line with Foal Auction Prinsjesdag, the successful references of our auction have really increased. A pedigree with a lot of sport really offers more certainty for jumping foals. But we also regularly visit breeders who have foals with an absolute dream pedigree, but that does not guarantee a high-quality foal. As a result, we regularly have to disappoint breeders, because we only want to sell our buyers foals that meet all our requirements. We have arrived in an era where you can sit in front of the computer with a mouthful when it comes to pedigree, and we want the buyers from us to be able to really trust that they are buying a good and correct foal. Only in this way can we continue to distinguish ourselves for the next 25 years in this world full of auctions”, says Fred van Straaten.

Promising collection for July 21 is online!

The collection for the second online auction has just been published on our website. Foal Auction Prinsjesdag will auction ten jumping and seven dressage foals on 21 July, all of which meet the high standards. This gives buyers from home and abroad the opportunity to invest in the future.

The fact that the future of many international sport horses starts at Foal Auction Prinsjesdag is underlined by the ever-growing list of successful references. In the jumping direction, foals descending from greats such as Darco, Verdi, Diamant de Semilly and All Star 5 are under the hammer. Leading strains such as Fragance de Chalus, Sea Coast Ferly, Zèlote VDL and Frenchy VDS are available in this strong collection.

Dressage violence
Dressage enthusiasts can also indulge themselves on 21 July. Offspring of stallions like Jameson RS2, Le Formidable, Glock's Toto Jr. and Fürstenball come under the digital hammer of auctioneer Peter van der Waaij. Extensive images and all further information about the seven dressage and ten jumping foals can now be found on the website. In order to be able to bid during this second online auction, it is advisable to register as a bidder in good time.

Foal Auction Prinsjesdag aims for a live auction in September

Due to the policy relaxation of the government regarding the corona virus, Foal Auction Prinsjesdag sees an opportunity to organize a live auction in September. This auction will traditionally take place on Tuesday 15 September – whether the show jumping and dressage auction will be spread over two days will be announced later. “We hope to conclude a successful auction season in the familiar Prinsjesdag style with this live auction,” explains chairman Arjan van der Waaij.

After the successful online edition in June, the focus of the Foal Auction Prinsjesdag team is currently on the upcoming online auction on Tuesday 21 July. An online auction is also planned for Tuesday 18 August – after that Foal Auction Prinsjesdag aims to have a physical auction in September.

“With regard to the quality of the foals and the options for the buyers, everything remains the same – both online and with the live auction, we strive for the highest attainable level, and online bidding is also possible during the live auction”, Arjan van der Waaij looks ahead . "We hope that the live auction can take place in September for both the breeders and the customers of Foal Auction Prinsjesdag, but of course this depends on government regulations and recommendations from RIVM."

Although Foal Auction Prinsjesdag has a tradition of live auctions, the online auctions will most likely be a permanent format. “We believe 100% in online auctions and over the past few weeks we have seen the success of this at both our own and other auctions. With regard to the live auction, we will also focus more than before on the online buyers' audience – we hope to be able to appeal to an international buyers audience with both the online and the so-called hybrid auctions," concludes Arjan van der Waaij.

Foal Auction Prinsjesdag well off the start with online auction

The first of the series of online foal auctions of Foal Auction Prinsjesdag had its climax tonight. With a proceeds of 29,000 euros, the Comme Il Faut filly Chickey Z turned out to be the topper of the auction, in which good average prices were achieved and an international buyers audience was reached.

The ten jumping and seven dressage foals could be bid online in recent days and tonight the showdown took place by means of an online auction organized in the studio. As auctioneer, Peter van der Waaij once again explained the foals presented via video images and the online bids could be followed up, after which the live auction followed. “Many bids have already been made in the pre-auction in recent days and we saw in the live auction tonight that quite a bit more was being bid on some foals”, chairman Arjan van der Waaij looks back with satisfaction. Extensive images and veterinary information were available on the website, so that buyers from all over the world could make a well-prepared bid.

performance genes
Among the jumping foals, Chickey Z (Comme Il Faut x Berlin, breeder family Sleutels/Keystud), bred from the prominent Van 't Roosakker line, and Cleopatra PB Z (Cornet Obolensky x Baloubet du Rouet, breeder Peter Bastiaansen) formed as a half-sister of the Grand Prix stallion Carrera VDL with prices of €29,000 and €28,000 with clear highlights. In doing so, they are continuing the trend of investing heavily in genetically interesting fillies. “We were able to achieve an average price of 12,850 for the jumping foals and there were several clear peaks. There was a lot of international interest in the foals and tonight we were able to do business with buyers from Switzerland, Italy, France, Colombia and Germany, among others.” With a price of €19,000, the Coen Wijlaars bred Choco Blue de Melodie (Chacoon Blue x Nabab de Rêve) was the most expensive colt. He comes from the brilliant line of top mare Fragance de Chalus.

Higher average
In the second part of the evening, the hammer fell for the dressage foals. In it, Peer Gynt (Jameson RS2 x Dante Weltino, breeder Nathalie Smeets) took home the top prize of €22,000. This top talent was purchased by Djedy and Donick Dontje of Xanthos Horses. Another three foals came in at a price of at least €10,000, which means that the seven dressage foals brought in an average of €10,640. “It was certainly an exciting evening. We're early in the season, it's an online auction and there was a chance that buyers would be a little hesitant. Fortunately, both selection committees did a fantastic job and we were able to present two strong collections here. We were even able to realize a higher average price for the dressage foals than in last year's physical auction. We look back with great satisfaction on this first online auction. And from tomorrow we look forward to the next auction, the denouement of which is scheduled for July 21st. Because we can also present very interesting and high-quality foals there too,” says Arjan van der Waaij.

A warm memory of Willem Dekker

Today May 30th, we learned that our highly valued board member Willem Dekker passed away last night after a long period of illness.

Willem Dekker (67) was characterized by his great passion for horses and a positive attitude to life. Together with his wife Anja and his daughters Mariëlle and Yvette, Willem focused on breeding jumping and dressage horses from Benningbroek in North Holland. His breeding has produced the approved stallions Hernandez TN (s.Kannan), Fire King WD (s.Toulon) and Kaiden Leva WD (s.Kannan).

From 2008 Willem was part of the board of Foal Auction Prinsjesdag. In addition to being a great horse lover, he also turned out to be a real connector. Willem liked to go along with the selectors and knew many fellow breeders. He was a man who loved to tackle and had great perseverance. Until the very end, Willem remained involved and enthusiastic about the Foal Auction Prinsjesdag.

With his passing, we not only say goodbye to a valuable board member, but also to a dear friend.
The board, selectors and stakeholders of Foal Auction Prinsjesdag cherish the beautiful memories and wish his wife Anja and their two daughters a lot of strength with this great loss.

On behalf of the board of Foal Auction Prinsjesdag,

Arjan van der Waaij
Chair
