Last Sunday, for the fourth time in a few weeks, www.embryoauction.com sold an embryo in which the best sports genes are anchored. The embryo of Glock's Zonik out of Grand Prix mare Reine B by breeder Peter Bleeker fetched a record price of 26,000 Euros. The embryo was sold to a very well-known German dressage stable that prefers not to be disclosed.
In the history of Foal Auction Prinsjesdag, the organization that also owns www.embryoauction.com, an embryo has never been sold for such a price before. 'We have been close to it before', says Nataly van Eykel of Foal Auction Prinsjesdag. 'De De Niro and de Fürstenball out of Sisther de Jeu recently went to the United States and the Netherlands for more than 20,000 Euros respectively, and the Kannan out of the only daughter of Ben Mayer's wonder horse Cella also fetched a similar amount. Years ago, we sold an embryo from the first generation of Totilas by Reine B, which then also went to Germany for 25,000.'
The website, which focuses in the form of embryos on mediation in the most exclusive genetic material of European warmblood breeding, can enjoy increasing international fame. More and more customers are signing up to participate in the auctions. The embryos mentioned earlier, but also the Glasgow van 't Merelsnest from the half-sister of VDL Bubalu from a few weeks ago, have already enjoyed considerable international interest. 'But we have not yet been able to experience the bidding spectacle that unfolded around Glock's Zonik', says Nataly van Eykel. 'Bids started slowly and over the course of Sunday we moved towards €10,000. We had interested people from America, the United Kingdom, Sweden, the Netherlands and Germany. The further we got, the more countries dropped out. The last 6 bids came alternately from the Netherlands and Germany. In the end, it was decided in favor of Germany.'
In the short term Embryoauction will release a number of new, very exclusive embryos. For more information www.embryoauction.com or call +31(0)342-440100.
