Personal artwork opening auction piece dressage evening

During the dressage auction of Foal Auction Prinsjesdag on September 12, the opening auction piece is an exclusive, personal work of art. Created by Astrid Thomas of ResinArt.
ResinArt is a young company that combines artistic creativity & photography with shine & deepening of synthetic resin.

Proceeds to Parapaard

The proceeds of the opening auction piece will benefit ParaPaard. This is part of the Disability Sports Fund and is committed to raising (financial) resources in order to support associations and organizations that offer adapted equestrian sports activities to people with disabilities. By supporting them, ParaPaard wants to ensure that adapted horse riding is made and kept more accessible.

ResinArt originated from an uncovered passion for synthetic resin

Synthetic resin (or epoxy) is a two-component resin that can be described perfectly as 'liquid glass'. Where a photo on acrylic is actually attached to the photo behind an acrylic plate, the High Gloss Epoxy is poured over the photo and molds itself to the object. This provides a nicer color intensity and a beautiful depth effect. The special thing about epoxy is that various materials can be applied between the different layers. You can think of Swarovski or gold leaf, but real flowers or even the mane of a horse can be processed in a photo panel, so that a beautiful 3d effect is achieved.

The piece of art to be auctioned is tailor-made for the highest bidder. The size of the offered artwork is 50 by 70, but customization is of course also an option. The photo offered will be made by Fleur Louwe. This talented young photographer has been nominated for a Dutch Photograph Talent Award 2019.

Prinsjesdag breaks the trend with absolute top auction

Buyers from home and abroad have shown optimum appreciation for the rock-solid collection of jumping foals of Foal Auction Prinsjesdag by buying into their pockets. High-quality foals with the very best bloodlines achieved a wonderful average of more than € 14,300 and the interesting filly New Usha van 't Studutch yielded the top prize of € 52,000. With an absolute top auction, Foal Auction Prinsjesdag has shown that quality and potential are still well paid.

Chairman Arjan van der Waaij looks back on a fantastic auction. “We had a very good feeling about the collection beforehand, but it all has to happen at the auction. You need the right buyers and several interested parties per foal. Tonight everything came together and our fine collection has been greatly appreciated by buyers from home and abroad.” Many prominent buyers were present in Ermelo, and several foals were also sold via telephone bidding and real-time live bidding via the internet. “The foals were pulled from all sides and that resulted in a great auction. We have some very good outliers but we are also very happy with the high average. Two-thirds of the foals have been sold for a price of more than 10,000 euros, which means that the breeders have received good prices for their interestingly bred foals.”

fillies

The most expensive foal sold was New Usha van 't Studutch, bred from the Van 't Roosakker line. This Cavalier Royale daughter, bred by Sjaak van der Lei, will remain in the Netherlands. The second most expensive foal was also an extremely interesting filly, namely the Cornet Obolensky daughter Next Meta. This full sister of the KWPN champion stallion Kannan Jr. earned her breeders Wobbe and Marietje Kramer 44,000 euros and she will continue her career with top rider Cian O'Connor. This rider also purchased the Aganix du Seigneur foal Athletico Z out of the full sister of Big Star. Other highlights were the Cumano daughter Nanalotte ES, who leaves for England for a price of € 44,000, the Opium JW van de Moerhoeve daughter Summer van den Bisschop, who moves to Miami for € 36,000 and as the most expensive colt the striking wildcard Unterwelt from the Gerendal Z (by Untouchable) with a prize of € 32,000. The latter was one of the foals sold through the online bidding.

a lot of confidence

For the first time this year, each foal started at 5,000 euros. “As an organization we have a lot of confidence in the foals and that is why we have increased the opening bid this year. That worked out well because no one got stuck around this amount. Quality is paid for, which has fortunately been proven again today.” The foals have been sold to countries such as America, England, Colombia and Germany, yielding an average price of €14,338. “Certainly in view of the large number of 65 foals auctioned, that is a very good average. This auction has made a lot of breeders happy and we hope to see them again next year with their foals. It is also very positive that many foals have been sold directly to good riders and stallion owners. With this we have not only ensured sales and good prices, but hopefully also a great future for the foals. Now on to tomorrow, hopefully the auction of the dressage foals will also be such a success”, concludes Van der Waaij. The filly Velleza-S Z, auctioned for charity, came into the hands of Jan Vink and Siem Kat for € 13,000. Half of this will go to the Support Casper Foundation.

Program Tuesday 11 September

The first jumping foals have arrived on the grounds of the National Equestrian Center. All foals are inspected by veterinarians prior to the auction. After this inspection they take place in a nice clean stable. You can view them in the stables from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. The presentation starts at 2:30 PM. Prinsjesdag auctions foal for the fight against pancreatic cancer

On September 11, Foal Auction Prinsjesdag has a very special auction piece. Half of the proceeds of the jumping foal Velleza-S Z will be donated to the Support Casper campaign of the Survival with Pancreatic Cancer Foundation. This organization is fully committed to fighting one of the most aggressive forms of cancer.

The founders of the foundation are all friends or family of people who have died of pancreatic cancer. They discovered that there is shockingly little attention for pancreatic cancer. Presumably because most people die from it so quickly that there is no time and space to initiate actions or demand attention.

Every day, eight people die of pancreatic cancer in the Netherlands alone. 90% of patients diagnosed with it do not survive the disease.
The aim of the campaign is to raise awareness about pancreatic cancer and at the same time raise structural funds to enable much-needed research into new, innovative treatment methods. The name of the campaign is oncologist and surgeon Casper van Eijck. He specializes in pancreatic cancer and is raising money for new research.

Support Casper

The initiator of the promotion during the auction is breeder and Prinsjesdag selector Fred van Straaten. “Last year I saw a piece on TV about the work of this foundation and in particular the doctor behind it; Casper VanEijck. He seemed like a very special man. Fortunately I have no personal experience with this disease and I hope not to have one. It's a cancer that is so disastrous for people, it wouldn't let go of me. I thought; we have to do something about this. The auction is an excellent moment to do our part.”

Velleza-S Z

Velleza-S Z is a filly from the breeding of the Van Straaten Family. Her sire is top stallion Vigo d' Arsouilles. Dam Belleza-S has proven to have enough jumping ability. She jumped a wall of 1.95m in Wierden and had a successful sports career at 1.45m level. Velleza-S Z will be the first foal to be auctioned on September 11. Half of the proceeds will benefit the Foundation Support Casper.

Velleza-S Z:

Wildcards added to selection

The impressive collections of jumping and dressage foals at Foal Auction Prinsjesdag have become even more impressive with the addition of three wildcards. Two dressage and one jumping foal have been added to the selection.

Two fillies

Two fillies were added in the dressage category; Nuance of Court Olympia (s.Blue Horse Zack) and Norina-Milou D (s.Vivaldi). Dressage selector Bert Poppelaars is very pleased with the addition of both dressage foals. “We wanted to add two more interesting fillies to the selection, and we succeeded very well with these two. The dam of the Vivaldi foal has already given two champions and became champion of Brabant herself. The foal of Blue Hors Zack comes from the Hof Olympia line, and a lot of sport comes from that. Both sires give offspring that are increasingly at the top of the classes, so they also fitted very well into the picture.”

An extra gem was also selected for lovers of interesting show jumpers. Unterwelt of the Gerendal Z is a son of Untouchable out of a granddaughter of one of the world's most famous broodmares: Usha van 't Roosakker. All information, photos and videos can be found on our website.

Foal Auction Prinsjesdag auctions exclusive offspring of Donnerhall

Dressage stallion Donnerhall is not only legendary for his sporting achievements, he also performs excellently in breeding. In 2017, there were no fewer than three direct offspring in the top ten of the WFBSH ranking, which is led by his son De Niro. On September 11, a direct descendant of Donnerhall will be auctioned during Foal Auction Prinsjesdag. And that is remarkable, because the stallion already died in 2002.

The last Donnerhall?

Virtually no more foals have been born from the legendary top progenitor Donnerhall since 2002, but Foal Auction Prinsjesdag has managed to find one more. Nostalgic bra is probably his last son, and also represents a strong maternal line. His dam Unolita already produced the ZZ-Zwaar dressage horse Bunolita. She is a mare from the line of successful breeder Huub van Helvoirt, from this dam line many well-known horses, such as the approved stallions Ebony and All At Once and the Grand Prix horse Romanoff of Vai Bruntink.

Donnerhall performed fantastically between the white picket fences. In his lifetime, he recorded 65 FEI victories and won multiple team golds and individual medals at major championships. But even more impressive are the performances as a sire. Because without Donnerhall dressage breeding would have looked completely different; the founder of the German D-line has produced an unparalleled number of influential sons and outstanding Grand Prix dressage horses.

Sell with a heavy heart

Breeder Jan Vink used ICSI to establish the pregnancy. An egg is injected with only one sperm cell. “I could get a straw from Donnerhall, and of course you don't miss such an opportunity. Donnerhall is the best dressage sire there has ever been. It is known that with a bloody mare he brings the best offspring. And Unolita is that. She is a terribly good mare. Nostalgic BH has everything it takes to become an approved stallion.

After the sale of his pancake factory, Vink now mainly focuses on Blackhorses Stud† The sale of this foal is close to his heart; “I'm known for not selling quickly, but I want to cut back a bit. I now have too many horses just for the sake of it, and then you have to sell. If I ever sell something at the auction, then it must immediately be a very good foal!”

Bert Poppelaars was wildly enthusiastic when, as selector, he had the opportunity to capture the foal. “Not only is it one of the very last Donnerhalls, but it is also a very good foal from a very good dam line.”

Nostalgic BH will be auctioned on September 12 during the dressage auction of Foal Foal Prinsjesdag.

Partner in the picture: Havens Horse Feeds

Over the years, Foal Auction Prinsjesdag has not only built up a large network of buyers and entrants, the auction has also entered into a successful alliance with a select group of business partners. One of these partners is Ports Horse Feeds† This Dutch-based company sells their horse feeds all over the world.

The Havens range consists of chunks as well as mueslis and various mixes. From broodmares and recreational horses to Grand Prix horses, Havens puts together feed for every type of horse. They strive for the highest achievable quality. This means that top riders know where to find the company. Havens sponsors riders such as Jeroen Dubbeldam and Adelinde Cornelissen. In addition, they have been feed suppliers for the prestigious international top competition CHIO Aachen (DE) since 2004.

Bart Minten is a sales manager and has been working for Havens Paardenvoeders for over 25 years: “Products for (top) sports performance play an important role within the company, but everything starts with the basics; the breeding. We have special pellets for pregnant and lactating mares and feed for foals and young horses up to 18 months. With this we provide them with all the necessary nutrients for the best possible start.”

Fixed value in horse country
Havens was founded in 1845 in the Netherlands and operates worldwide in 55 countries. What is special is that all these countries are served from one production location. “All the feed that is sold all over the world is produced in the Netherlands. This way we can guarantee the quality of our feed. Because the factory is located on the river Maas, the supply of raw materials is very efficient.”

Bart maintains contact with international customers, stables and riders with whom he has entered into a partnership. The choice to become a partner at Foal Auction Prinsjesdag was an easy one for him. “We operate worldwide with our company and the international character of the auction fits in well with this. I speak to many of our customers at the auction.”

Prinsjesdag successes during the PAVO Cup

He was already crowned champion at the KWPN stallion selection in 2017, and this weekend Jameson RS2 also added the Dutch championship for young dressage horses. He won the PAVO Cup for four-year-olds. Jameson RS2 is owned by RS2 Dressage Center and was ridden by Marieke van der Putten. His breeder, Stal 104, sold him while he was still an embryo at Foal Auction Prinsjesdag. By winning this competition, Jameson RS2 was selected for the shortened KWPN performance test. If all goes well, we will soon be able to add another approved stallion to our wall of fame.

The impressive KWPN-approved stallion Imposantos (by Wynton) became champion in the competition for five-year-olds. On September 12 we will auction a beautiful For Romance stallion foal out of the same dam as Imposantos.

There was also success in the six-year-old horse class; mare Hollywood Tarpania finished in tenth place in this prestigious competition. Her foal Still Tarpania (by Dream Boy) will appear in our auction on September 12th. We congratulate all involved.

Foal Auction Prinsjesdag breaks open online market with bidding system

On September 11 and 12, customers of Foal Auction Prinsjesdag will be able to bid via the internet. “Nothing new under the sun” some may think. But they are wrong. The bidding system works without any delay, which is unique in the world of online auctions.

The technology was developed by it company WeAuction for the real estate market, where online bidding at hall auctions is now well established. Director Paul Rijk explains; “We are convinced that for a successful online auction system you have to transfer the experience from the hall to the online users. We do this by making the sound of the auctioneer leading. Delay on the line has always been the problem when trying to combine online and real-time auctions. The images of the live stream are always a few seconds behind what is happening in the room at that moment. With our system, that delay is virtually non-existent. In this way, customers really have just as much chance online as people in the room.”

Automatic bidding (also called Robot bidding) is not possible with the system. Empire; “No, that is very conscious. Bidders decide on the basis of the live images whether they want to bid. Like people in the room, they can anticipate what they see and hear. When a bid is placed online, the room can immediately see who it comes from on the screen.” This creates a battle between bidders via the internet and the venue.

Huge track record
With more than 10,000 sold objects with a total value of more than 1.3 billion, the company is no longer a newcomer. At the company's auctions,
meanwhile an average of 39% of the items sold to online bidders. “We started with real estate auctions in 2008, but we have now successfully completed a number of foreign foal and horse auctions. We strive to offer the fastest and most reliable bidding system in the world.
If you decide not to come to the room, you need to be able to trust that the bidding system works so that you don't miss anything. I predict that the combination of online and offline auctions is the future.”

From the real estate world
Foal Auction Prinsjesdag chairman Arjan van der Waaij; “Times change and our auction aims to remain innovative. This system is very easy to use. It is clear and transparent. All the information we need from buyers is registered and different bidders can easily bid on a foal at the same time.”

Interested parties can register via the website of Foal Auction Prinsjesdag. When they have been approved by the organization, they can log in via the site. The system works on any phone, tablet or PC with a good internet connection. A helpdesk is available on both auction days to answer questions about the system.

Athletes make their move in Ommen

During the first edition of Foal Auction Prinsjesdag during CSI Ommen, nine jumping foals were auctioned tonight. Under the inspiring leadership of auctioneer Ernesto Conseco, a total of €95,500 was spent in Stegeren. This brought the average selling price to €10,611.

Show jumping rider Lucas Porter bought the charming Quabri de l'Isle offspring Qualibrie. SZ. Porter: “I'm very happy with him. It looks like a very sharp and careful foal. We immediately noticed this in the presentation, he jumped over a shadow on the ground. And he is fantastically bred. With a super sire out of a mare from the direct line of one of my best horses ever: B Once Z. In short, he met all our requirements! We have another foal this year, it would be nice if the two could grow up together.”

Auction topper Badr (by Balou du Rouet x Zambesi) entered the arena as second last. The colt from the dam line of Van Schijndel's Now or Never and It's the Business was sold for €16,000.

President of the Budget Day, Arjan van der Waaij, about the first edition of the auction in Stegeren: “We are pleased that the entrants proved loyal to our auction and wanted to participate in this initiative. Most of the foals were bought by sports people. This is great for the breeders, because that way their breeding products reach the right people directly. We will most likely see them again in the international show jumping ring.”

The next editions of Foal Auction Prinsjesdag will take place on 11 and 12 September at the National Equestrian Center in Ermelo.
