Prinsjesdag auctions foal for the fight against pancreatic cancer
On September 11, Foal Auction Prinsjesdag has a very special auction piece. Half of the proceeds of the jumping foal Velleza-S Z will be donated to the Support Casper campaign of the Survival with Pancreatic Cancer Foundation. This organization is fully committed to fighting one of the most aggressive forms of cancer.
The founders of the foundation are all friends or family of people who have died of pancreatic cancer. They discovered that there is shockingly little attention for pancreatic cancer. Presumably because most people die from it so quickly that there is no time and space to initiate actions or demand attention.
Every day, eight people die of pancreatic cancer in the Netherlands alone. 90% of patients diagnosed with it do not survive the disease.
The aim of the campaign is to raise awareness about pancreatic cancer and at the same time raise structural funds to enable much-needed research into new, innovative treatment methods. The name of the campaign is oncologist and surgeon Casper van Eijck. He specializes in pancreatic cancer and is raising money for new research.
Support Casper
The initiator of the promotion during the auction is breeder and Prinsjesdag selector Fred van Straaten. “Last year I saw a piece on TV about the work of this foundation and in particular the doctor behind it; Casper VanEijck. He seemed like a very special man. Fortunately I have no personal experience with this disease and I hope not to have one. It's a cancer that is so disastrous for people, it wouldn't let go of me. I thought; we have to do something about this. The auction is an excellent moment to do our part.”
Velleza-S Z
Velleza-S Z is a filly from the breeding of the Van Straaten Family. Her sire is top stallion Vigo d' Arsouilles. Dam Belleza-S has proven to have enough jumping ability. She jumped a wall of 1.95m in Wierden and had a successful sports career at 1.45m level. Velleza-S Z will be the first foal to be auctioned on September 11. Half of the proceeds will benefit the Foundation Support Casper.
