Prinsjesdag foal auction crushes all records
[PRESS RELEASE] At the National Foal Auction Prinsjesdag, it has once again become apparent that foals with a high expected value due to their excellent pedigrees are attracting a lot of attention. The auction broke all records and will go down in the books as the most successful foal auction in the Netherlands. The average price of the dressage foals was 11,000 euros, the average price of the jumping foals was 14,530 euros and a total of 89 were sold for 1,155,500 euros.
The prize winner with 42,000 euros is Pharao van de Bisschop (Quickly de Kreisker x Heartbreaker), who was bought by Anna Gkouskova, the sponsor of the Greek Grand Prix rider André Sakakini. And that while she actually came to Ermelo for two other foals. Pharao is a very interesting chestnut stallion out of Indra van den Bisschop, the full sister of Dulf and Holland van den Bisschop and the Grand Prix show jumper Audi's Estina.
Gkouskova invested in five very popular foals, which together cost 160,000 euros. Sakakini made the bids. “I prefer to be in the background myself. We actually came for Chupa Chup and Caesar, but I also got a very good feeling with the other three”, says the Russian interior designer who jumps up to 1.50m level and owned Ludger Beerbaum's top horse Chiara. The foals will grow up in Niedersachsen, Germany, where Gkouskova bought the accommodation from show jumping rider Herman Heinrich-Engemann and will open shortly after four years of restoration work.
The gorgeous Chupa Chup (Casall x Cassini) from breeder WW Stables from Meijel and Caesar (Cornet Obolensky x Kannan) from breeders B. Vink and MP Helsloot from IJsselstein both fetched 28,000 euros. For 30,000 euros Anna Gkouskova bought the colt Poseidon van de Molendreef (Comme Il Faut x Casco) from breeders AC Roegiers in Evergem (B.) and for C-We did it Z (Cumano x Animo) from breeder Kees Klaver she had 32,000 euros about.
Breeder Martien van de Bruggen received 40,000 euros for Kalista (F One USA x Carthago Z), which was bought by Kim Kristensen over the phone. This Danish rider already owns Kalista's Studbook Zangersheide-approved half-brother Dimitri Z (by Diarado) and wanted to get his hands on this filly with all his might. Kalista comes out of the fantastic breeding international jumping mare Larthago, who is also known as the dam of the Grand Prix show jumping stallions Harley VDL and Cevin Z.
Pomeline van de Bisschop (Denzel van 't Meulenhof x Tornado) was sold for 30,000 euros and Korinchidee DN (Etoulon VDL x Chin Chin) for 24,000 euros. Two foals raised 22,000 euros, of which Klarimo (Clarimo x Heartbreaker) goes to Paul Schockemöhle and Pavalensky van de Dreef (Cornet Obolensky x Lord Z) to the Spanish top rider Sergio Alvarez Moya. The mare Levita (Levisto Z x Baloubet du Rouet) sold for 18,000 euros is now in the possession of Mrs Keppel from St.Anna Pavlovna.
Kayne for 38,000 euros
In the dressage foals, Kayne (by Governor) was the most expensive foal sold with 38,000 euros. New owners are Gerard Korbeld, the owner of Governor, and dressage rider Adelinde Cornelissen, who has the stallion in training.
Korbeld considers himself lucky with the fantastically moving colt out of the ZZ-light dressage mare Adorijke (Rousseau x Krack C) ridden by L. Bennink from Zevenhuizen. “I came specifically for this foal,” he says. “As the owner of Governor I would of course very much like to buy a separate foal from him and my eye was on these. A foal has to appeal to me immediately and this one did. Beforehand I went to see the breeder. It's nice to see them in peace, although I have to say that this one showed itself fantastic again today."
Adelinde Cornelissen can't wait to have Kayne under the saddle soon. She is very enthusiastic about Governor, the son of Totilas out of the full sister of her topper Jerich Parzival. “Maybe we didn't compete at the top in the Pavo Cup, I think it's one for the highest work”, she enthuses.
The second most expensive foal with 30,000 euros was Kanjer DDH (Glamourdale x De Niro, breeder Dekstation De Havikerwaard), bought by Saskia Lemmens from Bergharen. With 28,000 euros, Kagan ter Selle (El Capone x Ferro, breeder N. Gunter from Peer) was one of the top three most expensive dressage foals sold and he is leaving for Stal Het Haarbosch owned by Louis Röst. King of Power SQBS (Fellini x Uphill, breeder H.MC.H. Spierings from Evertsoord) has been purchased by Nico Witte and Tim Collins for 24,000 euros.
'Not normal'
Chris van Dam on behalf of organization agency EQ International calls the auction's turnover 'not normal'. “If we had an average price of 10,000 we were already satisfied, 11,000 would be very good and anything above that is not normal. It is a reward for everyone who has worked so hard for this, although this success does not come out of the blue. We have been hunting all year round for the best foal material and over the years we have gained the trust of the very best breeders who are busy with their breeding day and night and who dare to invest in the best stallions in the world. If those foals had been sold for six thousand euros, it would not have worked out for all parties. It's really cool that the vision of our auction works. The Power of Performance. That's what buyers come for and they're willing to pay for it."
DVB Foundation
The DVB Foundation was pleased to receive a check for 6,200 euros that will benefit riders with a disability. After Lance Nekeman had left 2,400 euros for a sen magnum bottle of champagne, Gerrit Deen, co-founder of the foal auction, offered a curly mini foal for 1,600 euros to put it back in the auction a little later for charity. Siem Kat then bought the horse for 2,200 euros.
